Captain’s Log – July 19th, 2017

By July 23, 2017 Captain's Log

Wednesday, July 19th, 2017

Today was the first day of San Diego Comic Con 2017 and we headed down around midday and stopped at our host Jeff Young’s place.  Jeff is a long time friend who has an AMAZING geek house with an extra room that we stay in.  With SDCC hotel rooms over $300 a piece, having a free room is a good deal!

Plus, we have been dog sitting and had to take Georgie, an adorable Maltipoo (hald Maltese, half miniature poodle) with us.  Fortunately Jeff was accommodating and now Georgie’s best buddy!

So I will post what we did each day and what we saw, so those of you who can’t make it can get a feel.  San Diego Comic Con has changed a lot over the years, and so we spend less and less time walking he floor.  Hanging with friends is way more fun, and this year I have no plans to attend any panel.  Any decent panel means you have to stand in a line and I am too old for that!  🙂

Wednesday night is preview night, so here we go…..

The drive down. Crysstal and Georgie get some sleep while I drive.

You gotta love that Sideshow makes a statue of Mike from Breaking Bad!

The largest Hot Toys ever! The Hulkbuster is an $825 poseable, lighted action figure that FITS a 12″ Iron Man inside! Been waiting 2 years for these to be delivered! I need a bigger home.

DC showed off maquettes of Justice League characters. Not as cool as last year’s costumes, but cool none the less.

I love the Wonder Woman costume.

Our host Jeff Young, Prelude to Axanar costumer Kurt Cox, Crysstal and myself at the con!

Rob showed up for dinner at Spaghetti Factory.

So we covered about 1/2 the show in two hours, because we weren’t really focused on buying anything.  The Sideshow booth is always the big draw for us.  I mean…toys!

We ran into my good friend Kurt, who we were planning to have dinner with at the Eagle-Moss booth looking at starships! (any wonder why we are friends?).

So that was Wednesday.  More to come…
Alec
