I hope those of you who are fathers had a very happy Father’s Day!

I came across a good article the other day when researching military science fiction called The 23 Best Military Science Fiction Books.  On it were a few books that I have read and enjoyed, most notably the Honor Harrington series of books (important because SphinxCon is coming to Atlanta in November and we have big news about that!) and John Scalzi’s epic Old Man’s War series.

When I first was first writing Axanar, I stopped after 3 acts and it took me a year to write Act Four.  It was kind of intimidating to write in details an epic Starfleet battle.  And so I did my research.  And the first three Honor Harrington novels were absolutely invaluable to flesh out technology, tactics and get me in the right head space.  I strongly urge you to read book I of the series On Basilisk Station.  You will then see if you are hooked as I was!  And the author David Weber, will be at SphinxCon (Which is in Atlanta in November if I didn’t mention it).

The other MUST READ book is John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War.  A brilliant book that is exciting, funny, and a fast read, Old Man’s War burst onto the Sci Fi scene a few year’s ago and spawned a series of books, all of which are great reading.  You will absolutely love these books as old people get put into new super-human bodies to fight for mankind’s expansion in the galaxy.

Damn, I need to go read Old Man’s War again!
