Captain’s Log – March 23rd, 2017

So where are we with Axanar?  If you are a donor, you hopefully read the email we sent out almost two weeks ago with the plan that outlined everything we are doing with Axanar and our financials and the report from the independent financial review committee.  But some of you are fans and not (yet) donors and so a few people have asked questions.  So here are some points to keep you up to date.

  1.  At our Axanar Summtt, which happened about a month ago, We outlined the plan for Axanar, Axanar Productions, and the sound stage, Industry Studios.  We will focus on Axanar for the moment.
  2. We are currently taking our script and using it as a basis for a new script that will be episodes 4 & 5 of The Four Years War documentary.  Remember, Prelude to Axanar was episode 3.  And while Prelude was 20 minutes, the two new episodes will be 15 minutes each to comply with our settlement agreement with CBS & Paramount and the Fan Film Guidelines.
  3. Episodes 4 & 5 will tell the story of the Battle of Axanar and pick up where the cliff hanger of Prelude to Axanar, left off.
  4. We will not be recasting Kharn.  That role belongs to Richard Hatch, and we will deal with Kharn’s death in continuity.
  5. You will see new characters, including an Andorian Starfleet admiral and Kharn’s mentor…the last Thought Admiral.

If you read the financials we attached to the plan, you know that after 13 months of dealing with the lawsuit and paying rent, the money we had set aside for the production has been spent, all used for the purposes we stated in the Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns.  (Although no donor money was spent on the lawsuit, nor was a dime of money paid out to myself).  But to make episodes 4 & 5, we will need to raise more money.  That will not be done publicly, but through a private campaign once the script is done and the budget is complete.

And while Diana and I work full time on Axanar, neither of us is taking a salary.  We do this because we love Axanar and we have a commitment to you all.

So there you go, that is the high level plan for Axanar.  Stay tuned for more!

Alec

Wishing all of you, all the best!
Long live the memory of Kharn! I am sure that Richard Hatch has taken his rightful place in Stov’ol Kor and amongst the Lord of Kobol.

Alec … thanks for the ongoing updates. I would like to ask … any update on the “I Stand With Axanar” tshirts for which we donated in January?

I was blown away by “Prelude” and am really looking forward to the new episodes.
The comments above are promising. If smaller donations help (I’m not rich…), I’ll gladly become part of the (hopefully vast) multitude of donors.
    Good Luck

    Great I love it.

When things are ready, you have my e-mail (and approximately 15,000 others) that you can use to do “direct marketing.” And through that methodology — which I can’t see as being against the agreed upon “rules of engagement” — you can provide the exciting details worked out and also on the needs to make these “vignettes” happen.

I like the idea of the “documentary” style presentation, actually. Perhaps even more that a “battle royale.” To have the story retold in this manner is something not done before in the Star Trek universe (that I’m aware of…), and with snippets of the space “action,” I think it is possible to provide an exciting suspense filled 30 minutes of new material that continues the beginning that Prelude started.

I maintain my enthusiasm for what is to come; even with the unwanted shortage being forced by CBS/Paramount. Again, I wish — and only for this reason and more sun — that I lived in SoCal so I could be there to see it all happen. I guess I’ll just have to be satisfied with the results of the labours of others when the results are there and I can get my “greedy little hands” on the DVD of the completed “film.”

And then see about the “behind the scenes” materials that will be detailed (to see if I can afford any of them…).

Still with you, Diana, and the rest of the Axanar team.

Please peter don’t fall into there trap when they use the film guild rules ok. They want you to fall into this trap to where you CAN’T get out of. Cbs DON’T have no part of star trek they are brakeing there own rules. You should go to our gov office where you should read the copyright rules of what you can and CAN’T use. I did and you don’t fall into that area ok please go to the copy right rules page. I know that you did not brake no rules. I still want to talk with you please. My friend have ben trying to get a hold of you for me please send me back a e-mail to where i can talk with you please. My name is kenny Smith from sacramento/Rancho cordova ca.

I’m still not happy with CBS for cutting Axanar down the way they did, when they DEFINITELY could have made better decisions in dealing with this situation (They could STILL fix this, but of course they won’t) :/ Yes, I understand they have to protect their IP, but there were ways to do that without it costing them so much money in the long-run and, on top of that, such bad PR with the Star Trek fans that they spat on – Still looking forward to seeing what you folks come up with though, Alec – Godspeed to ya, alright?… P 🙂

  • James says:

If Prelude to Axanar was Episode 3, what are 1 & 2 and where are they then? They aren’t on YouTube that is for sure for searching for Axanar doesn’t bring them up and they are no where’s on the Axanar channel either.

  • Christopher Flowers says:

Forgive me if this is ignorant…but did you ever mention who will be taking your place as Garth?

    • Alec Peters says:

Well, now that we are back to the Four Years War Documentary, I will be reprising the role of Garth!

  • Eliza Tague says:

Wishing you and team Axanar for all the best of luck and gifts the each of you all will bring to the project.

  • Ray harasek says:

When will you be starting the new fundraising?

    • Alec Peters says:

Stay tuned, or as they say in the business “Watch this space!” (I am not sure which business they say that in)

  • J robinson says:

Why not do one and two also. It didnt work well for star wars. i would like to see the entire thing in continuity not bits and pieces out of order, im sure im not the only one. as for cbs against axenar they are making enemies of their fan base and if they arent very careful with discovery it all may blow up in their faces. Good luck and cant wait for the entire axenar movie on dvd. What i have seen is 1st class awesome.

  • TFolsom says:

Thank-you for the update, please include me in any direct mailing. I have no respect for CBS after the last year+ and look forward to the plague upon their house. I also hope to provide some small support to your project.
